In many museums, there is an erasure of people of color that creates an illusion of who can be an artist.
Conscientize Positive Representation
Draws the viewer's attention to a work of art done by a minority and fosters a connection between the viewer and the museum. If a visitor is not able to feel a sense of belonging, they will interpret that they do not have access to certain spheres of life.
Foster Critical Literacy about Dilemmas of Representations
Criticizes problematic artworks where racial minorities are not represented or misrepresented. This creates a distinction that those stereotypes are not representative of a population, both for insiders and outsiders of that specific group. If stereotypes are present in art, it can be internalized by the viewers.
